Make a simple Cross Carpet page - 5day course


An introduction to the layout and geometry of an illuminated page.

This workshop aims to give a basic understanding of the meaning, use and construction of the cross carpet page of a manuscript.  During this course students will be taken through the steps of making a small, simple cross carpet page.  Participants will learn about geometry, proportion, page layout, knotwork and other pattern elements, colour, pigments, gilding, making and using egg tempera, page and surface preparation.
